Item-writing panels* write the questions for the certification exams.

Time Commitment

We host item-writing panels for each of our certifications. There are two PHR/SPHR regional panels, one eastern and one western. GPHR and California state certifications each have one panel. Each meets once or twice a year for two days each time. Members must write 25 questions before each meeting.

Eligibility

To join the PHR/SPHR panel, you must hold the SPHR certification. To join the GPHR, PHR-CA, or SPHR-CA panel, you must hold the certification of the panel you wish to join.

Selection Criteria

We choose a diversity of panel members so that panels contain a range of experience, gender, culture, race, and geography.

Training

We train selected volunteers in developing consistent, high-quality questions.


*Please Note: If you volunteer to help develop exams, you must agree not to recertify by exam and not to teach certification preparation courses during, and for three years after, your volunteer period.
