To maintain the integrity of the program, HR Certification Institute reserves the right to audit candidate applications for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR), the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and the Global Professional in Human Resouces (GPHR) exams to ensure adherence to the minimum eligibility requirement of two years of exempt-level HR work experience. All candidates agree, either through a check-box on the online application or by signing the affirmation statement on the paper application, that they understand that the work experience listed on their applications may be audited. The following is the affirmation statement:
I hereby attest that (1) all facts presented on this application are correct and complete, (2) the work history reported meets the test for being classified as exempt as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and its amendments, and (3) I am qualified to apply for the certification examination. I also agree to provide supporting documented evidence of my work experience if asked to do so by the Human Resource Certification Institute and to abide by its ruling should my experience be judged insufficient. Further, I grant permission to the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) to make inquiries which the Institute may deem necessary to verify my credentials for certification. I further agree to abide by the rules and decisions of the Human Resource Certification Institute and understand that falsification of this application is grounds for revoking certification.
HR Certification Institute will audit applications at random up to six months after each exam administration. Candidates selected for an audit will be notified in writing, asked to complete an audit form (included with the notification) and submit it along with supporting documentation within the timeframe provided in the letter.
During the audit, HR Certification Institute may:
- Contact supervisors listed on the audit form to verify employment history.
- Request written documentation of all positions used to initially determine eligibility at the time of application. Written documentation may be in the form of an official job description.
- Request additional documentation as needed to verify employment history.
Candidates selected for an audit will be notified of its outcome. Candidates who fail the audit will receive a letter outlining where deficiencies were found and may be disqualified to take the exam or have their certifications revoked. In such cases, candidates will have the opportunity to appeal the decision. Decisions based on the outcome of an appeal are final.
